On Monday Bekah sent me a text saying that she felt like driving to California. Since I've been dying to go all Summer and Bekah is headed to the MTC next week, I jumped on the opportunity! Before we knew it we had a place to stay for free thanks to Bekah's sis-in-law Meg, another best friend Lexie to join us, and not very much money in our pockets.
{We found the best ice cream bars known to man! I think they are called Mexica?}
We headed straight to Newport Beach on Tuesday and had the dreamiest day. We all got so sunburned, but that's what happens when you are at the beach from sun up to sun down and only put sunscreen on once! It's just so dang painful when you are covered in sand, ya know? We set up a little camp with an umbrella, beach chairs, and a cooler. There was no messing around. We played in the water, but not in the waves because there weren't any! I guess that's the price you have to pay for the nicest weather ever. We built a sand turtle and named him Finn in honor of Cory Monteith. I also decided that if I ever have baby boys I am going to name them Finn and Hudson, also in honor of Cory. We ate Trader Joe's snacks like they were going out of style and gathered seashells along the beach. I got stung by something mysterious in the water and felt nervous because there were no sea creatures in sight, but felt happy when it only left a small welt. We watched Dolphins or Orca's (they looked black) out in the water. We marveled at the golden sand, and the pretty shimmer it created in the water. We fell asleep in the sand and woke up with red legs. We tried to make PB & J sandwiches without a knife and had to get creative.
We packed up our beach day and headed to Huntington Beach for a change of scenery and a classic dinner at Ruby's on the peer. We all got a little bit (a lot) happier when we had food in our belly's and couldn't control our laughter during dinner. Sometimes I wonder if people around me think I'm drunk. We felt shameless requesting refill's on our fry's and the waitress even overheard me saying that I was going to ask her to fill my purse with fry's. We crack ourselves up, at least I crack myself up. After dinner we hung out on the peer and watched the surfer's. As we were heading back to our car we noticed a festival going on in the streets so we went and checked it out. There was lot's of live music, people, and little booths and shops. We couldn't stay long because our time on our parking spot was about to expire but it was fun while it lasted. As we headed to our car we got to see a pretty sunset and I couldn't get over how magical our evening had been. We headed back to Megs apartment in Rancho Cucamongo and hung out with her for a little while before we crashed.
When we were passing through Vegas on our way to Cali we thought it would be fun to stop on our way home and ride a roller coaster. It's been on my Summer bucket list so it was a must. The more we thought about it the more we thought we should probably spend 20 more dollars and just go to Knotts Berry Farm instead. That was the best idea! We woke up bright and early so we could get to Knotts right when it opened. It ended up taking us longer to get there then we anticipated so we were pretty stoked when we finally arrived. So stoked we accidentally locked our keys in the car and had to wait an hour and a half for triple a to get there. I'm pretty sure we cheered when the sweet guy opened the door. He probably felt pretty special ;) The day was amazing and we even got to ride Ghost rider twice! It was the first and last ride we went on. I felt that was appropriate since it's the best ride in the world! I love how it's so painful it leaves me speechless. As we were leaving Beks fulfilled her turkey leg love and I fulfilled my ice cream love. Lexie fulfilled her Chik-fil-a love later, don't worry. We were stuck in crazy traffic and it took an hour and a half to go 14 miles but it was whatever! I haven't laughed as much as I did on this trip in a long time. I loved being able to have this little road trip with two of my greatest friends!
